Medium: Alcohol Inks

Alcohol ink has something for everyone, from professional artists to those who have never painted at all. Alcohol ink allows a spontaneity and freedom that is unlike any other medium.

In this class, you’ll learn various ways to produce realistic paintings using alcohol inks. Jane will lead you through planning your painting, and applying and combining techniques like free flow alcohol inks, pouring, painting with brushes, and using masking fluid. You’ll get step by step instructions for creating beautiful paintings using alcohol inks.

With colors so bright and vibrant, everyone will enjoy the results of your alcohol ink paintings!

Supplies to bring:

Jacquard Piñata Exciter Pack - The Piñata Exciter Pack features an assortment of 9 of the more popular Piñata colors. Also, bring along any individual Jacquard Piñata Colors you may like.

Yupo® Paper - You will need a pad of either opaque or translucent in whatever size you want. It comes in 74lb, 104lb and 144 lb weights (the higher the number, the heavier the paper). You might want to try the 104 lb, since it’s in the middle, but any weight will do.

For the extended class, you may want to get larger, single sheets of Yupo for a final project.

Fine mist spray bottle

Paint brushes: You must have one rigger brush, size 1 or 2. You’ll need small round brushes – something like the Creative Mark Micro Mini Detail Brushes. If you are working on a large project you may need larger brushes.

A Palette with wells, like a watercolor palette.

Masking Fluid - Incredible White Mask

White gel pens (optional)

Micron pens (black) (optional)

Eyedroppers

Denatured alcohol (Please do not bring Isopropyl alcohol from the drugstore), and a lidded container for the denatured alcohol.

Brushes for masking fluid - Masking fluid will ruin brushes, bring some inexpensive disposable brushes like the Creative Mark Masking Fluid Brush Set.

Optional: Jacquard Piñata Claro Extender and Jacquard Piñata Clean Up Solution

Other optional items: Cotton balls, cotton swabs, Make-up sponges, drinking straws, wooden coffee stirrers, toothpicks, sponges

Bring printed pictures of animals or birds for the controlled painting exercises.
